Man impersonates police officer during Stafford Co. armed home invasion
STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. (WJLA) - Stafford County sheriff's deputies said a man impersonated a police officer in order to gain entry into a family's home Tuesday night, and then attempted to rob the residents at gunpoint.
Deputies said the incident occurred around 9:15 p.m. at the home on Riggs Road in the Leeland Station subdivision.
Authorities report that a man initially identified himself as a law enforcement officer to the residents of the home, who then let him in the house.
Once inside, the man reportedly took out a gun.
The two residents of the house were able to escape unharmed and flee to a neighbor's home, where they called 911.
Deputies said a preliminary investigation indicates the family was specifically targeted by the suspect.
Authorities said the investigation "is still in the early stages" and they will release more information when it is available.
