Man sexually assaulted in Northwest D.C.
WASHINGTON (WJLA) - John Menz explained that he has lived at 3rd and R Streets for years, and saw police on Sunday in the alley just across from his home. He said he had no idea the scope of the crime committed involved the sexual assault of a 26-year-old man at gunpoint.
“It's a crazy world," he said. "He just told me that something happened, somebody got beat up or something is all he said."
Police say it was 4 a.m. on Sunday morning when the victim who was walking, stopped to ask another man for directions. But instead of helping, the man pulled out a gun and forced the 26-year-old into the nearby alley. At gunpoint, the man allegedly forced to the victim to perform oral sex and then robbed him of his cell phone, wallet, and even stole his pants.
Carla Peatross has lived here for 14 years, and is shocked:
"You don't know exactly who is doing this -- you stop to ask someone for directions and this is what happens to you...it's sad, I feel sorry for the guy, I really do."
"That is a surprisingly violent crime," adds Rochelle Ford, whose home is right next to the alley. “There is victmization all over -- it's not about gender, it's just about predatory behavior."
Meanwhile, Akoshia Yoba wonders if the victim’s gender in the case will bring attention to this crime:
"As women we know what it is. We sit at a table, it's five of us and three of us have stories. When men start having a story, it will stop."
