NORTHEAST D.C. (WJLA) - D.C. police said they are unsure if the death of a man from gunshot wounds in a Northeast home Wednesday is a suicide or homicide.

D.C. police said in a statement Thursday that officers were called to a home in the 5600 block of Chillum Place NE just after 3:30 p.m. on a report of a shooting.

Upon their arrival, officers said they located an adult male on the floor, unconscious and unresponsive, suffering from gunshot wounds.

Emergency medical crews transported the man to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The victim has been identified as Jerome Edwin Turner, 57, of Northeast D.C.

Police said Turner's body is currently at the medical examiner's office, where an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause and manner of his death.

"While there are indications that this may have been a suicide, the final determination will be made after an autopsy is performed by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner," police said in the statement. "The investigation is continuing."

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the police at 202-727-9099. Additionally, anonymous information may be submitted to the department’s text tip line by text messaging 50411.
