Subway restaurant burglaries on the rise in Fairfax County, across the region

(WJLA) - Subway restaurants in Fairfax County are being burgalized, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.

Someone reportedly broke into the Subway restaurant, located at 8558 Lee Highway in Merrifield, on Monday around 4 a.m., The thief enetered the store through the front door and stole cash before leaving, police said.

Monday's robbery brings the incident count to 15 across with the region, with 10 of the crimes occurring in Fairfax County. A Subway in Burke was reportedly robbed earlier this month on April 7 around 2 a.m.

Similar incidents have been reported in the Alexandria area and in Maryland.

Police believe the person who robbed the Merrifield Subway is the same person suspected in 27 other Subway burglary incidents since November 2013.

The suspect is described as male, unknown race, wearing a light-colored hoodie and dark pants.
