Tickets now available for Washington Monument's May reopening
Want to attend the Washington Monument 's May 12 reopening? Then make plans now, as opening-day tickets are expected to go fast.
Wednesday, April 16 is the first day advance tickets became available to tour the monument on its planned reopening date, according to the National Park Service.
The first tour begins at 1 p.m. on Monday, May 12.
Advance tickets for opening day are only available in person at the Washington Monument Lodge, the small building in front of the monument on 15th Street Northwest.
Online reservations for monument tours conducted on or after May 13 are available at recreation.gov or here.
Tickets are free, but there is a small fee for ticket reservations.
The monument reopens almost three years after it was damaged on Aug. 23, 2011 during a 5.8 magnitude earthquake.
Scientists said the earthquake's epicenter was near Mineral, Va. about 84 miles away from the District.
