FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (WJLA) - The Fairfax County Public Schools district plans to hold a series of community meetings in May and June to solicit feedback from families about potentially moving school start times later to allow students to get more sleep.

One meeting per cluster will be held, and families will also be able to send in feedback electronically through a website as well.

The FCPS board has been considering moving start times so that all schools start after 8 a.m. since April 2012. Last year, the district approved a contract paying Children's National Medical Center for consulting services to help the district achieve the goal.

The board recently announced four possible plans it is considering with regards to moving school start times:

Middle School “Late:” High schools would run from 8:30 a.m. to 3:20 p.m.; middle schools would run from 9:30 a.m. to 4:20 p.m.; and elementary schools would start between 7:50 and 9:15 a.m. and end between 2:25 and 3:50 p.m. The approximate cost for this option is $7,645,208 and would require the addition of 60 buses.

Middle School “Early” and Elementary School 15 Minutes Earlier: High schools would start between 8:10 and 8:20 a.m. and end between 3 and 3:10 p.m.; middle schools would start at 7:20 a.m. and end at 2:10 p.m.; elementary schools would start between 7:45 and 9:10 a.m. and end between 2:20 and 3:45 p.m. The approximate cost for this option is $4,655,128 and would require the addition of 38 buses.

Middle School-High School “Flip:” High schools would start between 7:50 and 8:20 a.m. and end between 2:40 and 2:50 p.m.; middle schools would start at 7:20 a.m. and end at 2 p.m.; and elementary schools would start between 8 and 9:20 a.m. and end between 2:40 and 4 p.m., adhering to their current schedule. Under this option, secondary schools would start at 7:50 or 8:20 a.m. and all other high schools would begin at 8 or 8:10 a.m. The approximate cost for this option is $5,583,005 and would require the addition of 46 buses.

High School Later: High schools would start at 9:15 a.m. and end at 4:05 p.m.; middle schools would start between 8:20 and 8:30 a.m. and end between 3:10 and 3:50 p.m.; elementary schools would begin between 7:40 and 9:15 a.m. and end between 2:20 and 3:50 p.m. The approximate cost for this option is $2,759,749, and would require the addition of 25 buses.

The schedule for the community meetings is as follows:

Monday, May 19: Hayfield Secondary School (Cluster 4)
Tuesday, May 20: Langley High School (Cluster 1)
Tuesday, May 27: South Lakes High School (Cluster 8)
