(WJLA) - There was an impromptu re-enactment on the Gonzaga field today, but the real game is the one the players will be replaying in their minds for the rest of their lives.

“It was probably one of the best experiences of my life. I’ll probably never forget it," said Gonzaga player DeAndre Easterling.

Gonzaga won a national rugby championship over the weekend -- its first in the 26 years they've been playing the sport at the school.

“The big thing is just seeing the joy on the players faces and we’ve just heard from all the alumni," said Head Coach Peter Baggetta.

Rugby is a big deal at Gonzaga. This year's team features some of the school's best football players and other star athletes. Saturday in Indiana, Gonzaga proved to be the best of the best, an accomplishment that will be handed down for generations.

Said Baggetta: “What I told these guys here is that they’ve erased everything that came in the past and every team after this they’ll never have the burden of being the first.”
