Montgomery County could add more police officers in high schools if new budget gets approved
(WJLA) - Montgomery County high school students could soon have the added presence of a police officer in the halls with them if a proposal to add more school resource officers (SROs) gets approved under the county's proposed budget this month.
Both the Montgomery County Council and County Executive support adding police officers to all of the county's high schools, according to the Washington Post.
The school system once had officers in every high school and two in middle schools, the Post reports, but budget constraints in 2010 forced the county to make cuts.
New officers could be in place as early as next school if the budget is approved. A final budget vote is expected on May 22.
