(WJLA) - A group of protestors who want authorities to do more in order to rescue the more than 200 kidnapped Nigerian schoolgirls held a rally outside of the Embassy of Nigeria in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday.

Although about 53 of the girls have since escaped, but 276 schoolgirls remain captive, according to the Washington Post. The schoolgirls were kidnapped by Islamic extremist group Boko Haram on April 14.

On Monday, Boko Haram claimed responsibility for the abduction and threatened to sell the girls.

The Nigerian government has come under fire for its response to the situation as global reaction to the kidnapping continues to increase. Secretary of State John Kerry pledged U.S. aide on Saturday to help find and return the missing girls.
