(WJLA/CNN) - Longtime "Jeopardy" host Alex Trebek is a new world record holder.

Trebek recently broke the world record for the most game shows hosted by the same presenter.

The host has been the popular quiz show's leading man nearly 7,000 times - and, according to "Guiness," he's never taken a sick day.

The only time Trebek wasn't on the show was April Fool's Day in 1997, when he and "Wheel of Fortune" host Pat Sajack switched places.

Seventy-three-year-old Trebek has been hosting Jeopardy since the show's return in 1984, and says he owes his accomplishment to the viewers.

In total, not including Monday's show, Trebek has hosted 6,829 times, and has asked a whopping 416,560 questions.

Trebek is expected to retire in 2016.
