Arch Campbell: 'Jersey Boys' movie doesn't capture the spark of the Broadway show

WJLA) - Based on the successful Broadway musical, "Jersey Boys" tells the behind-the-music story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons.

The stage show ties one energetic song after another, weaving an only-in-America story between numbers, but Clint Eastwood's movie tamps down the music and plays up the drama in bits that feel stale and clichéd.

John Lloyd Young won the Tony Award for the musical and it transfers well to the screen. A grand finale best-of number captures the spark most of the movie missed.

Two-and-a-half stars: A mixed result for "Jersey Boys."

This weekend, "Think Like a Man Too" nudged ahead of "22 Jump Street" at the box office.
