Police find man's body in Lower Senate Park near the Capitol

WASHINGTON (WJLA) -- A body was discovered Friday afternoon in Lower Senate Park and the U.S. Capitol Police were investigating to determine the man's cause of death.

The body was found about 12:15 p.m. near Union Station and the Capitol by officers responding to a report of an unconscious man.

Police briefly closed streets in the area of D Street and Delaware Avenue, NE as a result.

Police told ABC7 News that the victim was a homeless man who may have died as a result of exposure to elements - namely the hot and humid conditions in recent days.

The body of the man, who has not been identified by name, was taken to the D.C. Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy.
