(WJLA) - One week into Metro controlling the Silver Line, the transit agency says progress is continuing to be made, and that so far, nothing has emerged that will delay the opening, which will likely be in August.

We now know what it will cost you to ride the new line, as Metro posted a fare calculator on the Silver Line website today.

If you want to ride from Reston to Largo, it will take you about 71 minutes and cost you $5.90. If you want to go from McLean to Union Station, it will take 38 minutes and $4.95.

Metro expects that by the end of the first year of operations, the Silver Line will carry 25,000 passengers per day. New riders are anticipated from Fairfax County, as well as from the Largo end of the line, who will have expanded access to Northern Virginia. Metro also expects that some of the riders will be concerts from the Orange Line.

During WMATA’s weekly Silver Line conference call, we learned that the regional regulator – the Tristate Oversight Committee – has begun its review of the Silver Line and the project contractor continues to make progress on the remaining punch list items.

An emergency drill over the weekend involving state, local, and transit police was deemed a success, and by mid-June, WMATA says it should be ready to announce a target day for opening the Silver Line.
