Thousands of job-seekers turn out for MGM Casino career fair
BOWIE, Md. (WJLA) - Thousands of job-seekers turned out in Bowie Thursday for a career event with the up-and-coming MGM Casino.
The future casino, which will be located at National Harbor, will offer thousands of jobs to Maryland locals.
At the career event on Thursday, job-seekers were given the opportunity to learn about a wide range of opportunities when the billion-dollar casino opens in late summer 2016. Casino hiring managers promised hour-long open information sessions, as well as one-on-one meetings with job-seekers.
Thursday's event was just one in a series of several career events that will take place over the next year.
It's all part of a community benefits agreement with Prince George's County.
Based on the agreement, MGM has committed to hiring 40 percent of their employees locally.
MGM is still two years out from the grand opening, but officials say the reason they are beginning career events so early is so people can prepare ahead of time as far as qualifying for the positions.
MGM said the company will start hiring employees around four to six months ahead of the opening.
