GLAMOUROUS KATIE: Topless, no less, per the Huffington Post, “Katie Holmes strips down and poses topless for Glamour's August 2014 issue, which she covers. In the magazine, the 35-year-old rocks an array of designer duds and opens up about being a single mom to her 8-year-old daughter, Suri, with ex-husband Tom Cruise.
“Motherhood is the greatest gift. When I became a mother, my life completely changed," Holmes tells designer Zac Posen, who interviewed her for the issue, later adding, "I didn’t know how much love I had in me. It’s overwhelming. Every day I discover more about this spectacular human being I get to be the mother of." ’’
NICKI MINAJ: And Usher, per Celebuzz!, “This morning, Usher dropped "She Came to Give It to You" featuring Nicki Minaj. It's a total jam. The song is produced by Pharrell, so you have him to thank for the track's roller rink-ready sound. It's Nicki, however, you have to thank for the instant classic "he only lasts six seconds like a Vine." Usher plans to release a new album later this year.” http://celeb.bz/1qfzZbv
EMMY AWARDS: Breaking Weird, per the Los Angeles Times, “ “Breaking Bad" finally won the Emmy for drama series last year. At the time, everyone assumed Bryan Cranston & Co. would be taking a well-deserved victory lap this year for the last half of its satisfying final season, which concluded shortly after the Emmys were handed out in September.
“But in the ensuing months, "True Detective" punctured the pop culture psychosphere, and "Game of Thrones" ratcheted up the terror and the body count, as did "The Good Wife" in its own way. Throw in competition from such up-and-comers as "The Americans," "House of Cards" and "Masters of Sex" and perennial favorites like "Mad Men" and "Downton Abbey" and you have a category, like our DVR queues, cluttered with too much good television. . . And even with seven nominees, look for plenty of anguished "snubbed" cries when Emmy nominations are announced Thursday at 5:40 a.m. Pacific time.” http://lat.ms/VVx8vt
FINDING CARTER: On MTV, per the New York Times, “Young adult television typically cleaves into two camps — it’s either about the absurd comedy of teenage life, or its unending tragedy. The plotlines aren’t that different, but in the first category, characters respond to pain with charm and wit, while in the other, their shoulders droop, and they stew in bad lighting.
“. . .Carter Stevens (Kathryn Prescott) is a hero of that first kind of show trapped in the amber of the other on “Finding Carter,” which has a two-hour premiere on MTV on Tuesday night.” http://nyti.ms/1vWRiQd
VIDEOS AND MORE VIDEOS: And Wolfgang’s Vault, per Rolling Stone, “With so many concertgoers posting clips of concerts to YouTube, it's a lot easier to overcome the fear of missing out. Now the music-obsessive fans behind Music Vault, which is owned by bootleg haven Wolfgang's Vault, have made it easier for people to see concerts they may have missed over the past five decades.
“Over the past two years, Music Vault has been remastering more than 13,000 concert videos, which they are now offering up on YouTube. The footage spans the last five decades and features performances by a wide array of artists, spanning classic rock and soul, like Bob Dylan, the Grateful Dead and James Brown, alongside indie artists like St. Vincent and Deer Tick.” http://rol.st/VF7FWH
SHARKNADO: Never saw this coming, ahem, per The Hollywood Reporter, “By the time Sharknado 2 premieres on the Syfy Channel on July 30, the first spin-off video game will have mobile and tablet players racing to destroy shark-infested tornados threatening New York City.” http://bit.ly/1oECcO8
JUSTIN BIEBER SUCKS UP: Or something like that, per The Insider, “. . .On Sunday, Scooter Braun tied the knot with his cancer-activist fiancée, Yael Cohen, in Canada. It should come as no surprise that the 33-year-old manager — who reps industry heavyweights including Justin Bieber — celebrated his big day with a smattering of A-list celeb clients and friends. (Before you ask: Justin Bieber was not only there, but he even sang!)” http://yhoo.it/1vWUxHv
MILES DAVIS: Just the facts, per INDIEwire, “Don Cheadle is set to make his directorial debut with "Miles Ahead," a biopic about jazz legend Miles Davis, who the actor has apparently been obsessed with from a young age. Cheadle's film focuses on Davis's so-called "silent period," a five-year span he took off from music before returning to his art, as well as the musician's rocky relationship with Frances Taylor Davis, his first wife.” http://bit.ly/VVA5vV
WHACKED: Of Kristen Stewart, per Us Weekly, “Shocking new 'do! Kristen Stewart debuted a hair makeover at Paris Fashion Week on Tuesday, July 8, showing off a major haircut. The Clouds of Sils Maria actress, 24, chopped her shoulder-length bright red locks into a retro-inspired piecey blunt cut. Stewart parted the feathered look on the side and let her short hair go naturally wavy.” http://usm.ag/1xMbbfw
