D.C. Council will vote on Monday to override Mayor Vincent Gray's budget veto
WASHINGTON, D.C. (WJLA) – The D.C. Council is set to vote Monday to override D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray’s veto of the council’s budget.
Gray vetoed the $10.6 billion budget, which was approved by the D.C. Council, last Friday. The budget included cuts to funding for the city’s streetcar project and taxes on gym and yoga studios.
In a letter Gray sent to the Council, he said the streetcar would be delayed until 2045 and the cost would increase by 50 percent under the approved budget.
Gray has also requested the council work with him to develop a new budget.
The D.C. Council needs only nine votes to override Gray’s budget veto.
