Xfinity Center: Maryland renames Terps hoops arena formerly called Comcast Center
COLLEGE PARK, Md. (WJLA) - The University of Maryland's Comcast Center has been renamed the Xfinity Center, the school's athletic department announced Monday.
“We have enjoyed a longstanding and successful partnership with Comcast for more than a decade, and are excited to extend this relationship with the renaming of the Xfinity Center,” Maryland director of athletics Kevin Anderson said in a press release. “It is our goal to continue to provide our fans with a special gameday experience, and we look forward to unveiling new amenities at the Xfinity Center in the near future.”
The arena, opened in 2002, is home to Terrapins men's and women's basketball as well as volleyball, gymnastics and wrestling. The building is also home to the University's athletic department administrative offices.
