According to the pool manager, the girl went off the diving board into the deep end of the pool and swam to the ladder. After touching the ladder, she allegedly fell back and went under the water. A lifeguard rescued her immediately.

Montgomery County Fire & Rescue was initially dispatched to the pool around 2:40 p.m. for a report of a possible drowning at the facility.

Witness Elizabeth Wilcox says the girl’s head never seemed to go underwater, but it was clear something was wrong, almost as if the child were suffering from a medical condition.

“She was, like, moving and above water, but it wasn’t controlled,” Wilcox said. “She was making just the same noise the whole time.”

Late Tuesday, the child’s condition was unknown.
