ARLINGTON, Va. (WJLA) – Summer is winding down and so is the summer movie season. Our summer movie season is kind of like this summer’s weather—not too hot, but more pleasant than usual.

This summer’s Transformers reboot, “Transformers: Age of Extinction,” holds the title of biggest summer movie box-office hit so far at $243 million. But coming fast on its heels is “Guardians of the Galaxy,” the hilarious “Star Wars” send-up that rates as my summer favorite.

“Boyhood” has received the best reviews of the year—99 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. It tells the story of a Texas boy, following him from age 6 to 18. The movie took 12 years to film. I think “Boyhood” is the best film of the year and will contend for an Oscar next year.

The best musical of the summer is “Get On Up.” The James Brown biography captures the spirit of his life and music.

The top DVD rental is “The Lego Movie,” which started the year with awesomeness.

This weekend’s top box-office hit was “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.”
