Today's pop-culture roundup includes shades of disrespect, a resurgent Jack Bauer, a drunk Khloe Kardashian, details of a new musical project, our mystery music video and much more.
‘24’: Aging well, per the Los Angeles Times, “It’s been 13 years since Fox first aired “24” but ratings for the show “24: Live Another Day” suggest Jack Bauer’s still got it. According to Live-plus-7 ratings, which includes viewership on non-linear platforms Video On Demand, Hulu and FOX Now, the show’s finale, which aired on July 14, is on its way to surpassing its 2010 series finale.
“Viewership of the Fox drama grew 45%, from 6.5 million to 9.4 million viewers. Fox projects the series finale will reach 10.7 million viewers -- a 12% increase in viewership from 10.4 million total viewers in 2010 -- when 30 days of multi-platform viewing is taken into account.” http://lat.ms/1obnhfH
DOOBIES: With a twang, per Rolling Stone, “Like old black water that keeps on rolling, details have been leaking about Southbound, an upcoming album that pairs the Doobie Brothers with some of country music's biggest acts. We now finally know what songs Sara Evans, Brad Paisley, Blake Shelton, Zac Brown Band and the other country collaborators will be performing, as Rolling Stone Country has the exclusive reveal of the album's track list, along with its album art.
“Due November 4th, Southbound mixes the reverence of a tribute album with the back-and-forth collaboration of a duets record, with the Doobies sharing vocals and playing all instruments on 11 new recordings of their own hits.” http://rol.st/1qVjNkh
RONALD REAGAN: Just the facts (or not), per the New York Times, “Rick Perlstein always hoped his book on the rise of Ronald Reagan would set off serious debate among scholars and historians. Just not this debate.
“Mr. Perlstein’s new 856-page book, “The Invisible Bridge: The Fall of Nixon and the Rise of Reagan,” which comes out Tuesday, is proving to be almost as divisive as Reagan himself. It has drawn both strong reviews from prominent book critics, and sharp criticism from some scholars and commentators who accuse Mr. Perlstein of sloppy scholarship, improper attribution and plagiarism.” http://nyti.ms/1oonibn
CAT FIGHT: Of the rap variety, per Celebuzz!, “Female rap is having a moment — please see Nicki Minaj perched on top of the iTunes charts and Iggy Azelea's recent seven-week run atop the Billboard Hot 100. With success, however, comes drama. So much drama.
“Minaj covers the August/September issue of Fader, and in the feature interview, she addresses the infamous shade she threw at Azalea at the BET Awards in June. In other femcee beef news, Lil' Kim has released her own remix of Beyoncé's "***Flawless" (in response to the official remix featuring Minaj released over the weekend), and it is, naturally, an attack on Minaj.” http://celeb.bz/1kDtAsM
AFFORDABLE HOUSING: Of the gloved one, per The Insider, “Now you can own a piece of pop culture history – but it'll cost you! Michael Jackson's Las Vegas estate that he leased from 2006 to 2008 has been listed for a whopping $19.5 million. The 24,276 square foot mansion features seven bedrooms, 12 bathrooms, three kitchens, and guest villa.” http://yhoo.it/1s8pcEl
KARDASHIAN DOES KIMMEL: Or something like that, per X17, “. . .Kim Kardashian appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Monday and gave some behind-the-scenes details on her European wedding to Kanye West earlier this summer. "I think everyone just had such a good time at Versailles that they drank too much. Khloe drank a little too much the night before and I had to wake her up. She was laying down and getting her makeup done while she was sleeping, she was so hungover!" the reality star dished about her sister's antics at the rehearsal dinner.” http://bit.ly/1v6PDfH
BIG BUCKS FOR BULLOCK: Top of the heap, per The Wrap, “Thanks to “Gravity,” Sandra Bullock was the highest paid actress of the year according to Forbes.com, who released their annual ranking on Monday. Bullock made an estimated $51 million between June 2013 and June 2014. The unexpected box-office surprise of Alfonso Cuaron‘s Oscar-winning space thriller allowed Bullock to jump from #7 on Forbes’ list last year to #1 this year.” http://bit.ly/1qVlIph
KRISTEN CHENOWETH: Of an apparently unhealthy episode, per Us Weekly, “. . . Kristin Chenoweth hinted at some serious health problems via Twitter this week. The Emmy and Tony winner, 46, shared some issues that she is going through in the early hours of Monday morning, Aug. 4, and Tuesday morning, Aug. 5. "Back in LA," she tweeted. "Unable to move. Numbness and tingling in arm. Going to cedars dr tomorrow. Ah anyone who prays please do!" MICHAEL STRAHAN: Of the breakup thing, per TMZ, “Nicole Murphy decided to tell the world she had broken up with Michael Strahan -- right when he was entering the Hall of Fame -- because that's when she "confirmed" he was unfaithful. A source close to the couple tells TMZ ... Nicole first got wind Michael might be dating another woman in early July and started investigating ... the way scorned women do. We're told she was finally convinced it was true on Friday and immediately decided to go public.” http://bit.ly/URjjNw

Johns, 35, died suddenly Friday from a blood clot in his ankle.
