Today's pop-culture roundup includes continuing fallout from Robin Williams' suicide, a performance announcement, an apparently well-behaved Chris Brown, our mystery music video and much more.

BACKLASH: Of a well-meaning tweet, per Variety, “A tweet from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences about Robin Williams’ death has proven popular, but not with one suicide-prevention group. The tweet, sent out Monday at 5:56 p.m., shows the genie from the 1992 “Aladdin” with the message, “Genie, you’re free,” which is a line from the film. The item was retweeted more than 320,000 times and received a staggering 69 million impressions. The Internet and Twitter have been filled with tributes to Williams, who voiced the genie in the film.

“However, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention worries about the subliminal message. Christine Moutier, chief medical officer at the AFSP, expressed concern about the tweet, telling the Washington Post Tuesday, “Suicide should never be presented as an option,” before adding, “(it) presents suicide in too celebratory a light.” ’’ http://bit.ly/1sXQMBc

MEANWHILE: Tribute in the works, per Rolling Stone, “Producers of the Primetime Emmy Awards are making plans to pay tribute to Robin Williams, who died Monday, during their August 25th telecast. "Plans for the In Memoriam segment are in discussion," executive producer Don Mischer told The Hollywood Reporter. "While we are all still coming to terms with this week’s tragic news, we are working to give Robin Williams the proper and meaningful remembrance he so well deserves." Mischer also TV Guide, "It's about what can we do to properly remember Robin and create perhaps an emotional moment about him." ’’ http://rol.st/1ux4peJ

TAYLOR SWIFT: Not nerdy Natalie, per The Hollywood Reporter, “It's official: Taylor Swift is performing at the MTV Video Music Awards. The 24-year-old singer will take the stage at this year's awards show taking place at Inglewood, Calif.'s renovated venue The Forum. It will be broadcast on Sunday, Aug. 24, at 9 p.m. ET/PT on MTV. Swift made the official announcement on Wednesday's appearance on the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where she promoted The Giver. She will host a live Yahoo stream from New York City on Aug. 18, where she will reportedly reveal details of her fifth studio album.” http://bit.ly/1rvnYPA

SO FAR, SO GOOD: Of a certain Rihanna ex and, perhaps, current, per X17, “Chris Brown attended a progress report hearing at Los Angeles County Superior Court on Wednesday afternoon, and a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office tells X17online that Judge James Brandlin found Brown in compliance with the terms of his probation. Breezy's certainly been on his best behavior over the last two months, but it is a bit odd that he arrived to court in jeans and a flannel shirt with a cigarette tucked behind his ear. Apparently he doesn't see a point in dressing to impress! And we're not even going to discuss the bag of Flamin' hot Cheetos in his hand.

“This hearing was related to Brown's probation violation earlier this year, stemming from his 2009 assault on Rihanna. Brown was found to be in violation of his probation when he assaulted a man in Washington D.C. last October, and on May 9, Judge Brandlin sentenced the R&B bad boy to one year in jail. Brown received credit for 234 days of time already served, and he was released on June 2.” http://bit.ly/1mMW9PF

‘LET’S BE COPS’: Or not, per the Los Angeles Times, “Movie critics are reading "Let's Be Cops" the riot act. Although the comedy starring Jake Johnson and Damon Wayans Jr. as a pair of buddy cops who aren't really cops has a solid premise, reviews say, the dreary script is unfit for duty. Robert Abele in The Times says that while "there's an appealing hint of misadventure in a title like 'Let's Be Cops,' as well as in the first few scenes," that only makes "the rote, slipshod and unfunny rest of the movie all the more dispiriting — like a drug that's as much fun as precinct paperwork." ’’ http://lat.ms/1paFAl2

PARIS HILTON’S SISTER: Darling Nicky, per People, “Socialite and hotel heiress Nicky Hilton is set to wed banker James Rothschild after the two became engaged last weekend during a romantic boating outing on Italy's Lake Como, Hilton's rep confirms to PEOPLE. The England-based Rothschild, a European banking heir, proposed to Hilton, 30, on bended knee after making a secret trip to the U.S. to ask her parents for her hand in marriage.” http://bit.ly/1pPzE07

SAVANNAH GUTHRIE HAS A GIRL: Just the facts, per Us Weekly, “Welcome to the world, Vale Guthrie Feldman! Savannah Guthrie gave birth on Wednesday, Aug. 13, welcoming a baby daughter with her husband Michael Feldman. This is the first child for the Today show anchor, 42. She announced the birth of her daughter on Thursday, Aug. 14, sharing cute photos of baby Vale on the Today show and social media.” http://usm.ag/1owS4Vs

AND THIS IS NEWS WHY?: You know, just because, per Perez Hilton, “Everyone knows not to mess with the Kardashian/Jenner name! But a waitress at New York's Mercer Kitchen did just that when she called out Kendall Jenner for supposedly skipping out on her bill and then throwing money in her face after the waitress chased her down.

"Now, she's going to have to deal with the wrath of the reality TV star! While Kendall has already tried to clear her name over Twitter, she's now aiming to make her point by SUING the waitress! Kendall's lawyer, Marty Singer, is claiming she has been defamed and WILL sue if necessary.” http://bit.ly/1oMpAkH

FINS TO THE LEFT: Fins to the right, per The Insider, “Hollywood is buzzing over the Discovery Channel's Shark Week, but perhaps no one is more excited than 45-year-old "Austin Powers" star Verne Troyer.

“The actor, whom you might remember as Mini Me, took to Instagram on Wednesday to express his love for the annual week-long celebration, posting a pic of himself dressed in a shark costume. "Got a little too excited watching #sharkweek last night," he captioned the photo, in which he is clutching his TV remote control.” http://yhoo.it/1qaaOpd
