Today's pop-culture roundup includes a long tongue, Beyonce and a big award, Larry David and Broadway, a high-flying Priince Willian, our mystery music video and much more.

GENE SIMMONS ON ‘REDSKINS’ NAME: The “Kiss” front man was asked about it during a wide-ranging interview, per the Wall Street Journal, “Well, look. There’s sports, there’s business and then there are people. As a Jew, I wouldn’t be thrilled as “The Kikes.” And if you’re black, you wouldn’t be thrilled with a football team called “The Blacks.” I could use a worse word. Because “Redskins” was what the white man called them. So I understand if you’re a sports fan and if you’re white, you go “Hey, what’s the problem? We have a long history.” But if you’re an Indian, think about it. White dudes don’t have to worry about that stuff because [they] were always the majority in imperialist countries of the world. “Cracker” means nothing to white people. They had all the money and the power.”

If people are talking about your brand as being racist, is that bad for business?

“Bad for business? I don’t know. But whether or not it’s bad for business or not, you’ve got to make the change. It was launched at a time when white people weren’t sensitive to the idea that you’re actually insulting an entire race of people.” http://on.wsj.com/V4slGG

BEYONCE AND THE VMA: Of a high honor, per The Hollywood Reporter, “It's going to be a big night for Beyonce at the MTV Video Music Awards.

“The 32-year-old singer will receive the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, equivalent to a career achievement honor, and also will take the stage at the ceremony for what MTV is describing as an "epic" performance, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. The VMAs will be broadcast from Inglewood, Calif.'s renovated venue The Forum on Sunday, Aug. 24, at 9 p.m. ET/PT on MTV.” http://bit.ly/1slj3Bi

QUITE A LINEUP: Led by a comedian, per the Los Angeles Times, “Fred Armisen has been known to garner a number of notable musicians for cameos in his humorous IFC skit-show “Portlandia.” Now, the seasoned comedian is forming a rock supergroup for one Troubadour show on Sept. 14.

“The group, Dead Men Walking, will consist of the Living End’s Chris Cheney, Duff McKagan of Guns N’ Roses, the Damned’s Captain Sensible, Mike Peters of the Alarm and the Stray Cats’ Slim Jim Phantom. They’re slated to perform both original material and “old favorites.” More special guests have been promised, opening up countless possibilities with Armisen’s comedic and musical backgrounds. Before his 11 years on "Saturday Night Live," Armisen was the drummer in Trenchmouth, a Chicago-based punk rock band, in the early '90s.” http://lat.ms/X4c46w

LARRY DAVID: Hits Broadway, per the New York Times, “The comedian and actor Larry David, the star of HBO’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm” and the Emmy Award-winning co-creator and head writer of “Seinfeld,” will make his Broadway debut this winter in his first play “Fish in the Dark.”

“In a telephone interview on Wednesday, Mr. David said that the play was a comedy about a death in a family, with about 15 characters, and that he was playing “somebody very similar to Larry David – it might even be Larry David with a different name.” ’’ http://nyti.ms/1kKSgQb

‘BATMAN V SUPERMAN’: And “Captain America 3,” per The Wrap, “Just days after Marvel showed the strength of its brand with a $94 million haul for “Guardians of the Galaxy,” Warner Bros. has decided to release “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” in 3D on March 25, 2016, avoiding a high-profile showdown with “Captain America 3” on May 6, 2016.

“ “Batman v Superman” is viewed as the cornerstone of Warner's DC Comics Universe and the studio couldn't afford to leave anything to chance with its release date. It was inevitable that one studio would blink, as it never made sense for Hollywood to open two blockbuster superhero movies against each other.” http://bit.ly/1lBaXAG

THE ROYALS: And a pilot, per People, “Prince William has a new job: air ambulance helicopter pilot. He will join the East Anglian Air Ambulance, his office has confirmed to PEOPLE.

“Since leaving the RAF at Anglesey, where he was based for more than three years, William, 32, has been eager to get back to flying and is set to complete what officials call "a mandatory period of training this autumn and winter." He will start work at the area bases at Cambridge and Norwich airports in spring 2015, flying night and day shifts, which will allow for him and wife Kate, also 32, to live primarily at Anmer Hall, their 10-bedroom mansion near Sandringham.” http://bit.ly/1oH9dtT

GEORGE CLOONEY: It’s official, per Us Weekly, “They're officially getting hitched! George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin attained their marriage license in London at Chelsea Town Hall, a source confirms to Us Weekly. On the license, which was first posted by Dlisted.com, Clooney's name reads as George Timothy Clooney while his lawyer love is listed as Amal Ramzi Alamuddin.” http://usm.ag/1AW1VIo

‘THE VIEW’ NEWS: Just the facts, per Variety, “A senior executive from MSNBC is expected to take the lead producing role at ABC’s “The View,” the latest signal that the durable daytime program will change radically following the retirement of its co-creator, Barbara Walters.

“Bill Wolff, who exec produces MSNBC’s “Rachel Maddow Show” and serves as vice president of that news outlet’s primetime programing, is leaving the NBCUniversal-owned network to run “The View” at ABC, according to a person familiar with the matter. By doing so, he will replace Bill Geddie, who created the show with Walters and has run it as its executive producer since it debuted in 1997.” http://bit.ly/1zXgry6

BABS: And social media, per The Insider, “Hollywood legend Barbra Streisand joined Instagram on Wednesday, posting her first pic to the social media site. In the photo, Babs is wearing a black blazer and white blouse as she lounges in a wicker chair outdoors with her little white dog, Samantha.” http://yhoo.it/XHyAlF

KANYE: And a lawsuit, per TMZ, “Kanye West was determined to explain under oath why he thinks the paparazzi are worse than the Nazis ... but his panicked lawyer muzzled him. TMZ has a copy of Kanye's deposition in the lawsuit filed against him by a paparazzo whom he attacked at LAX.

“Nate Goldberg -- the lawyer for the photog -- is asking Kanye about a verse from his song, Flashing Lights" ... rapping about paparazzi and saying, "I hate these n***as more than a Nazi." ’’ http://bit.ly/1ojQ1TG
