Arson suspected in fire that destroyed Germantown, Md. playground

GERMANTOWN, Md. (WJLA) - A playground in Germantown was destroyed Wednesday night in a fire officials are calling “suspicious in nature."

Damages are estimated at $100,000; the playground was deemed a total loss. (WJLA)

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue responded to a call just before 9 p.m. at a playground located in the 21300 block of Seneca Crossing Drive, next to Sally Ride Elementary School.

A spokesperson with the fire department told ABC 7 News partner WTOP that the firefighters were able to extinguish the “spectacular” fire, but the playground could not be saved.

Damages are estimated at $100,000; the playground was deemed a total loss.
