The incident occurred at 4854 North Rock Spring Road, shortly before 6 p.m. in a neighborhood just west of Old Dominion Drive. Construction crews have been working on a home on the property.

Police say subcontractors were loading large sections of trees onto a flatbed truck and the workers had trouble securing one giant log.

"The driver exited the vehicle and was out there attempting to secure it with a strap when one of the sections rolled off, ultimately crushing him," said Arlington County Police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck.

Mitchell Payne, who identified himself as a coworker of the victim, says their company is based out of Culpeper, Va. He says the victim was a hard worker who had a family and was new to the company.

ABC 7 News confirmed Thursday evening that the victim has been identified as Franklin Talley Jr. A family member says the 30-year-old was born in Spotsylvania County and lived in Madison County, Va.

Sternbeck said police do not think any foul play was involved, calling the incident a "tragic accident."
