7 people shot in 5 separate D.C. shootings overnight

WASHINGTON (WJLA) - Six men and one woman were shot in D.C. late Wednesday night and early Thursday morning in five separate shootings.

Police say shootings are unrelated

Two men were shot in the 4700 block of Minnesota Avenue NE around 9:30 p.m. and two other men were shot nearby in the100 block of 46th Place NE.

Police said one of the victims in those shootings was unresponsive during transport to a local hospital, but did not indicate which shooting he was injured in. Metropolitan Police announced Thursday evening that one of the victims in the 46th Place shooting had died. The victim has been identified as Dexter Motley, 25, of Southeast D.C.

Another man was also shot in the leg at 7th and N streets NW. Police are searching for a gold four-door car and two suspects in connection with this shooting.

A woman was grazed in the head by a bullet on Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X avenues in Southeast D.C. and in another shooting, a man was shot in his leg just after 1 a.m. in the 3300 block of Croffut Place.

Police said they do not believe any of the five shootings are connected to each other.

Further details about the circumstances surrounding the other shootings and potential suspects are not yet known.
