One Direction performing at Nationals Park

WASHINGTON (WJLA) – The mega-popular boy band One Direction was performing Monday evening at Nationals Park, which caused traffic issues and other concerns for commuters.

Traffic control officers from the District Department of Transportation were on hand, but commuters found that streets near Nationals Park were closed to traffic. There was also be a higher number of pedestrians in the area.

The concert started at 7 p.m.

Heavy traffic can be expected again afterward on the Southeast/Southwest Freeway and around South Capitol Street.

Huge crowds also staked out the Mandarin Hotel, where the band was reportedly staying, hoping to catch a glimpse of the stars.

The concert is part of the group's "Where We Are Tour" featuring Australian pop/rock group 5 Seconds of Summer.
