WASHINGTON (WJLA) - A vacant building partially collapsed Tuesday in the 200 block of P Street NW, but authorities said no injuries occurred.

D.C. fire officials said the old house was slated to be demolished, but something apparently went wrong and one of its walls fell over into a neighboring yard about 1:45 p.m.

Authorities were examining the scene to determine if the two buildings adjacent to the collapsed one were safe to occupy.

The old structure was supposed to be demolished as part of a D.C. housing trend of buying older row houses, demolishing them and replacing them with large “pop-up” condominiums. The practice isn't sitting well with many residents who live in neighborhoods where such condos are popping up; they argue the new homes are unsightly.
