Phased retirement finally gets phased-in
The federal workforce is at a generational crossroads. Earlier this year, the Government Accountability Office reported that one-third of federal employees will be eligible to retire by 2017.
Enter phased retirement.
The Office of Personnel Management will allow full-time employees to work part-time and start drawing benefits. The first applications will be processed by November sixth.
Colleen Kelley, president of the National Treasury Employees Union, offered perspective on OPM's plan for phased retirement.
