WASHINGTON (WJLA) -- A brief scare was triggered at George Washington University Wednesday afternoon after a "small explosion" was reported at a campus building.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation, who responded along with D.C. firefighters and a hazardous materials crew to GWU, told ABC7 News that there was no explosion - but rather it was simply an accidental spill at a lab inside the Tompkins Hall of Engineering.

The incident came on a day when a hostage hoax also caused a scare at the University of Maryland.
