We are running a story about Doctor Ophir Alalouf's license suspension tonight at 5pm on ABC7. April 30/08.
TO WATCH STORY CLICK HERE.
For the record, we tried several times to get Dr. Alalouf's comments and we were turned away. We are reporting on the board's findings, the other side of the story is Dr. Alalouf's. It's great that some patients were happy with his work. That is what he is supposed to do and what he is paid to do.
We are reporting on what was found to be improper work done on children and failing to perform in a manner consistent with standard ethical practices in the dental profession as laid out by the Click below to read the Consent order for Dr. Alalouf:
licensing body.
I've read some blogs about the reporting we are doing at 7 On Your Side, calling me an ambulance chaser and "skewed reporting", say what you like. The facts speak for themselves and IN FACT Dr. Alalouf signed his name to the facts laid out by the dental board and waived his right to appeal the findings and to examine witnesses.
He even chose to stay hidden from us while his wife spoke openly to 7 On Your Side on camera.

This is not a popularity contest about whether or not you like Doctor Alalouf, it is about fact.
Dr Ophir Alalouf DDS
We are very concerned about the way the Maryland State Board of Dental Examiners chose to handle this case. When we asked for an interview the spokesperson, Murray Sherman, told me that they would want the questions in writing, want us to agree not to stray from those questions, want the interview done "live" (remember we are doing a story for a 1 hour newscast there are other stories that need to be told besides this one) but in the end they declined to be interviewed and couldn't answer some of our questions because they couldn't talk about the process! I told them I thought their original conditions were absurd!
This board is charged with protecting the public! You would think it would want to come forward to go on camera and tell us why the investigation was launched and it took action. That speaks volumes about the mandate of the board.
Mr Sherman remained as responsive as he was able to our requests for a copy of the order and questions concerning notification requirements etc. There's no requirement that dentists notify their patients when they are suspended. Parents say that needs to change.
Bottom line:
Perhaps the legislature needs to take a look at the rules and regulations governing the Maryland State Board of Dental Examiners. It obviously needs more resources. This investigation took 6 YEARS to complete!
These orders are not easily accessible on the website you have to call the board to get them. That needs to change and it is, we are now told more information will be made available on their website. In the meantime to get a copy of the order just click above. To inquire about other dentists call the board at 410-402-8500.
-Ross McLaughlin 7 On Your Side.
You did name call again, calling me a "wimp". That says more about you than me.
You haven't sent me any emails that I can see. You've just "posted" your comments and I have responded..you may not like the answers, but I haven't ignored you. However, I will now.
We have other people who need our help and are moving on.
Cheers, ROSS

To CCC- It is sad yo have to retreat to using the words "child predator is livng in your neighborhood" to ge people to read what you are saying. Such a shame. Completely understand why you'd have to hit below the belt, Dr. A reputation speaks loud and clear for itself without cheap antics. Keep showing people what you have to do to get your side heard. Only looks better for Dr. A.
Folks, clear your heads for just a moment. Maybe this Dr. A is the world's nicest and friendliest person. Maybe he's even a great dentist...but the fact of the matter is...he agreeed that what he was doing was wrong and he accepted his punishment...Ross is letting everyone know this. Now, some of you may not care about the 47 page consent order, but is it REALLY SO BAD that Ross is letting others know...others that might actually care to know about the order and what DR. A has agreed to?
And you should knowe about personal attacks being the lowest form of good debate-thats what signs your paycheck. Have a great evening!
Also, this was an extremely one sided report. You acknowlege above that you did receive comments from parents who were pleased with the care their children received from Dr. Alalouf but this was not mentioned once in your report. It is this type of one-sided journalism which makes it hard to trust your reports.
My child has been a patient of Dr. Alalouf for nine years. I have never had any reason to doubt the care we have received. I am very cautious about the care our child receives; we will continue to have our child be treated by Kids Teeth and look forward to when Dr. Alalouf can return to practice.

It needs to be updated though since we just won another award for excellence in reporting from the Associated Press.
