Wet Wednesday

Rainy, gloomy days. Damn, I hate them. I swear, I must be part plant.

It's days like today that I find it hard to get out of bed. I had an 8:30 meeting this morning and found myself avoiding the treadmill so I could make it on time. I know, I know, so many people get to work way earlier than that...but I have been logging 12 hours a day for the last two weeks and just can't seem to muster the energy I need on this gloomy Wednesday.

Let's see what else has been going on? Awards. Murrow, Emmy, and AP. All three are exciting to win and all three get the best entries from across the country. Each year, my boss asks...well commands me to take all the stations best work from the past year (2007) and enter these contests. In doing so, I get to see all the quality work from our group of people here. Sometimes I forget about how hard and how well our staff is at doing their jobs.

It all starts with the talent, names you know like Gordon Peterson, Leon Harris, Alison Starling, Doug McKelway, Maureen Bunyan...They are literally and figuratively our anchors. The work they did on the Va Tech and Sean Taylor events this year was phenomenal. I also had the pleasure of watching (again) Roberta Baskin's and Sandy Bergo's (I-Team Producer) Small Smiles Investigation. If you haven't seen it, click here. Every time I turn around, they have broke another aspect of that thing. It has a great chance to win several investigatory awards for 2007. But it's not just the specialty units, there were award worthy works done by so many...Julie Parker, Brad Bell, Kris Van Cleave, Jay Korff, Great Kreuz, Gail Pennybacker, Scott Thuman, Jennifer Donelan, Suzanne Kennedy...you know what instead of typing all these names, click here and take a look at our quality on air staff. But it doesn't stop there. There is no clickable page for the people who matter most, the ones behind the scenes...but our producers, photographers, editors, graphic designers, directors...I could go on and on...they are on par for the best in the country. Watch the newscasts, watch the specials, watch the moments that make live tv, well LIVE TV. The people here excel at it. Thrive on it. Crave it.

Alright, enough about that. How about you tune in tonight to see the latest 7 On Your Side piece? Wedding Woes, or Problem Planner...we always try to give our stories a catchy title. Here's a thought. Why don't you try? Blog back your responses to title our story for tonight. If there is a good one, we'll use it. Here's the background...a couple hires a wedding planner to help plan the wedding. One month before the the big day, the wedding planner quits. Leaving the couple to fend for themselves on the big day. There's a lot more to this story...but you'll have to watch tonight to see. In the meantime, blog back. I want your ideas.
