A Cautionary Tale
category: Politics

We all remember how accurately the pollsters called the New Hampshire primary.

Well, they got McCain right.

On ABC 7’s 11:00 PM news the night before the NH Democratic and Republican primary elections,  yours truly, having covered more of those northern adventures than I care to disclose, said, “No predictions here. Many a prognosticator has come to grief in New Hampshire.” Keeping that in mind, we offer the following:

California’s delegate total is awesome—370 for Democrats, 173 for Republicans.

In the latest Reuters/CSPAN/ Zogby poll, Obama leads in California by 13 points.

In the latest Survey USA poll, Clinton leads in California by 10 points.

In the latest Reuters/CSPAN/Zogby poll Romney leads in California by 7

In the latest Survey USA poll McCain leads in California by 1.

Catch my drift?

However, you might consider this: our Inside Washington regular and PBS Newshour contributor, syndicated columnist Mark Shields, notes that in the most recent WSJ-NBC poll, only one American receives favorable personal ratings from conservatives, evangelicals, African-Americans and Latinos.  That would be John McCain. He gets a little cranky sometimes (McCain, not Shields), but people like him.

A note to DC voters: today is the last day for the DC Board of Elections and Ethics to receive your request for Mail Absentee Ballots.

February 11, 2008, is the last day to cast an absentee ballot in person at the BOEE office at 441 4th St, NW, Suite 450, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m..

Primary election day for DC, Maryland and Virginia is February 12, 2008.
