The Obamians believe they will win Guam (May 3rd), North Carolina (May 6th), Oregon (May 20th) and Montana and South Dakota (June 3rd), and they hope to head Clinton off at the pass in Indiana (May 6th), as they were unable to do in Pennsylvania and Ohio.
Indiana Senator Evan Bayh and most of the Democratic leadership in the state have been backing Clinton, but the Clinton campaign is almost broke, whereas Obama has a huge wad of cash.
Former Congressman Lee Hamilton of Indiana, the co-chair of the 9/11 Commission, said on CNN this afternoon, candidates generally decide to fold after they run out of money. Hillary? Don’t count on it. For the record, Hamilton is one prominent Indiana Democrat who is endorsing Obama.
In “Groundhog Day,” Phil Connors, the Murray character, a Pittsburgh TV weatherman, wakes up each morning to Sonny and Cher’s “I Got You, Babe,” on his clock radio day after day after day, always the same day, February 2nd, presumably for years. This goes on for so long that Connors is able to acquire a number of new skills, including the ability to speak French and to play the piano.
So far the candidates are sticking with English, bowling and shots-and-beers, and although Clinton remains the underdog, it will still be a while before Obama can sing, “I Got You, Babe” and when he does, if he does, it won’t be a love song.
