It was a bad day for Washington sports! The Caps were beaten by the Pens and Zims streak was halted. Folks, the Penguins were in the finals last season. Pittsburgh is a more experienced team than the caps with a boat load of talent and a red hot goalie in Marc-Andre Fleury. Even though the Capitals took a two nothing lead in the best of seven series with the Pens, they are a young club playing with a 21-year-old goalie who wasn't even in the NHL a couple of months ago. Don't get me wrong. The Capitals are a very good hockey team, but it's a year away from making a serious bid for Lord Stanley's cup."Definitely anti-climactic," said Bruce Boudreau in the night's understatement. The Caps got spanked! The 6-2 Pens win was decisive. Folks, the Capitals won 50 regular season games, won the Southeast Divison title and won seven playoff games. That's one heck of a year. Meanwhile, The Nationals played a matinee with the Giants in San Francisco and Ryan Zimmerman had his hitting streak halted at 30 games. Zim went 0 for 2 with two walks and a couple of groundouts. Still, Zimmerman had hit safely in 30 straight ball games ,the Washington record is 33 held by Heinie Manush in 1933, and seems to be at the very beginning of a great career. During the streak Zim got his average up to .381 and was seeing the baseball like it was a beach ball. Let's hope a new streak starts Friday against the Phils . Regardless it'll be fun to watch Zimmerman and the Capitals for years to come!
