C United Midfielder Ben Olsen hasn't played all season, because of lingering problems with his left ankle. Ben had surgery on both ankles last fall. The right ankle is feeling fine, but the left one is still bothering him. In all probability, he will need major surgery to the ankle. This certainly puts his career in doubt.
I talked with Ben today. The uncertainty of it all is what concerns him right now. But he's not giving up the fight. Ben said if it takes one, two or three surgeries, he's going to try to come back. If he is still forced to retire, he says he feels so fortunate to play for United the last ten years. Ben is the team's 6th leading scorer all time and is second on the team's all time list in starts and games played. Ben is one of the nicest and classiest individuals you will ever meet. Team President Kevin Payne calls him, the heart and soul of the team. There is no disputing that. He's a blue collar player, who has carved out one of the greatest careers in United history.
Let's hope Ben can comeback soon. But if not, what a great career he has had...
