We all know, this has been a disastrous first half of the season for the Nationals. At the All-Star break, they have the worst record in baseball. Fifteen players have been on the disabled list.. The owner and the city are fighting over money owed. The TV ratings are the lowest of any team in baseball. And if that's not enough, General Manager Jim Bowden and special assistant Jose Rijo have been questioned by the FBI, over an alleged money skimming scandal involving Dominican prospects. All these incidents have not only turned off a lot of fans, but you have to wonder how potential free-agents are looking at the Nationals organization. We know the Nats won't sign a free-agent for big money. But what if they were interested in signing an available quality player to a modest contract in a move to help appease the fans. Will that player want to come here.? A player like Diamondbacks 2nd baseman Orlando Hudson comes to mind. Hudson is a free-agent at the end of the season. He was an All-Star last season. He's a three-time Gold Glover. He's batting .300. He's a leader, a terrific person and a great guy in the community. The Nationals need a 2nd baseman, who can hit at the top of the order. Hudson is that type of player and he won't break the bank. The Nationals should be dying to sign a guy like that. Unfortunately, not only will other teams make a serious run at Hudson. But perhaps, the Nationals are doing irreparable damage to the image that will make a player like Hudson think twice about coming here..
