Big Brown's trainer, Rick Dutrow is saying all the right things about his horse's cracked left, front hoof. But let's face it, this is a huge concern for Dutrow and Big Brown's handlers. Winning the triple crown is hard enough. That's why it's been thirty years, since a horse has done it. But to have a crack in the hoof has to have an effect on the horse.
Big Brown already hasn't trained for three days and won't for another two days at least. So his training pattern has already been altered. Plus, there are no guarantees that the horse will be able to train by Wednesday. Sometimes a cracked hoof can heel in days and other times, it can take a couple of months.
