The Pet Show preview - The post-holiday edition

Whew! I don't know about you guys, but I'm exhausted after the holidays! All I really want to do is curl up by a warm fire and take a long winter's nap. However, this week, we've got someone to inspire you to get out and do just the opposite!

Plus, we have an award-winning journalist who is taking on the entire shelter industry, Ask The Vet makes a comeback, and an Adorable Adoptable!

The ever-so-fit and ever-so-fabulous Lisa Reed, owner of Lisa Reed Fitness, joins us with some fantastic Winter work out tips for you and your pooch! She has some great ways of getting rid of those holiday pounds and getting back in shape for Spring! Watch her on the show, and see a few of her tips below:

1) Have the right equipment! - Lisa and I both love our new Breeze Comfort sports tops and you will too! Stay tuned to The Pet Show's Facebook page on Saturday to learn how you can win one for yourself! These tops are made with environmentally friendly organic bamboo charcoal to keep you from smelling like your dog (by absorbing impurities and foreign matter) and Supplex that keeps your temperature regulated in the heat or in the cold! These sports bras/tops have been worn by many of the Dancing With The Stars dancers, Ali Fedetowsky, Mayim Bialik, and even some celebrity "vampires!"
2) Be the center of attention for your pup when you work out with your dog.
3) Warm up inside before you head out in the cold.
4) How to know if it's too cold to run/walk with your pup.
5) Hydrate - even when it's cold.
6) Be consistent and committed.

Next up, we're joined via Skype by award-winning journalist Kim Kavin, author of Little Boy Blue: A Puppy's Rescue from Death Row and his Owner's Journey for Truth. When Kim decided that she wanted a puppy, she did what millions of people do every year: clicked on an online photo and submitted an application.

She had no idea that her adorable puppy was actually a last-minute rescue from a high-kill North Carolina shelter. The book chronicles her shocking expose' into the brutal ongoing reality inside many of the country's taxpayer funded shelters, and her pledge to make a change in the system.

"Ask the Vet" is back, and the Director of Major Gifts from Washington Humane Society, Darcy Levit, joins us to talk about end of year giving, 12 Days of Adoptables, and The Sugar & Champagne Affair taking place on Jan. 31.

We've got a super "famous" Adorable Adoptable, as well, as the incredibly handsome Bruno Mars (the canine version) comes to the show looking for a forever home...and he's amazing, just the way he is! Sorry, couldn't resist.

Tune in Saturday at 11 a.m.!

The Pet Show this week is SO festive!!! We’ve got tons of great gift ideas for you, your family, and your pets, plus we’re featuring an amazing program that’s help to put millions of pets into loving homes over the past few years! Finally, we’ve got an amazing giveaway that you’ll have to see to believe!

Terry Macko, Senior Vice President of Communications and Marketing for the World Wildlife Fund, joins us this week to tell us all about gifts that give back! With over 200 ways to share your commitment to conservation, it’s one of the most popular ways WWF supporters can give a gift to nature and the magnificent creatures they support around the world. Dr. Katy’s favorites are the “Hands Off my Parts” bamboo t-shirts which highlight the worldwide increase in crimes against wildlife, and the “Build Your Own Buckets” where you get to fill your own sustainable, FSC-certified wooden bucket with your favorite species (over 33 to choose from). Check them out for some amazing, fun, and committed ways to show you care this holiday season.

Next, Mike Arms, President of the Helen Woodward Animal Center in San Diego, CA, comes on to talk about the Iams Home For the Holidays promotion that last year alone helped to place 1.25 million animals in homes across the country. The mission of Iams Home

For the Holidays is to help orphaned animals find a loving home, to educate the public about adoption, and to provide animal organizations of all sizes with important marketing information and guidance, as well as the tools for implementing media events and activities by utilizing the Iams Company’s vast network and years of experience.

Sandra Navarra from PGSPCA joins us with TWO Adorable Adoptables this week, both of which could NOT be more gorgeous, or more deserving of a loving home. Fred & Leia are both gorgeous, and both have fascinating histories. Leia is a Parvo survivor, and Fred is deaf, but neither of these guys are the least bit deterred by their backgrounds – they’re so ready to go to loving homes.

Well, it’s getting closer and closer to the holidays, folks, and I don’t know about you, but I’m getting antsy! So much to do and so little time…same story as every year, right? The show this week is SO much fun, though, and totally holiday themed, so maybe you can take your mind off what you ‘haven’t done yet,’ or at least get some cool ideas for the coming weeks!

Sarah Zuidema and Kristina Robertson from Barkley Square Pets join us to teach us how we can make a healthy holiday dinner for our pets…or just have Barkley Square do it for you! All natural, human-quality ingredients allow our kitties and puppies to enjoy fabulous holiday fare without having to loosen up their waistbands like we do after a holiday feast.

Tim Link joins us via Skype from Wagging Tales to talk to us about the importance of securing your pets in the car while traveling, and how our precious 40-pound bundle of love can turn into a 2000-pound projectile in a car accident. These tips may help to save you and your pets’ lives!

We continue our series on pet-friendly holiday gifts (with a manly slant this week) and talk about our fantastic giveaway valued at over $560!!! Three special thank yous go out this week: the first to Rachel and Stephen at Ecology Shops for the incredibly thoughtful surprise they sent me in the mail to honor my late co-host Stanley.

Second, to the folks at Isabella Grace Jewelry. I’m completely in love with my new Papi necklace! And finally, to Caroline Golon at High Paw Media for setting us up with some fabulous products to add to our fun! You don’t want to miss any of these gorgeous gifts.

Finally, Patrick Cole joins us from the Animal Welfare League of Arlington with two incredibly Adorable Adoptables and a spotlight on some fun holiday-themed activities they’re doing at the shelter this year.
