I know we always say that we have a fun show this weekend, but we really mean it today. No, really, we do!

Nick White from Off Leash K9 Training returns with Prince William Humane Society to talk about the new program that they're working on together, Warrior Buddies. This program helps to pair veterans with adoptable pets for no fee. A great project near and dear to many of our hearts.

Next, Sharon Discarfano joins us via Skype to tell us her heartbreaking, but ultimately healing journey, that led to her writing the book Letters to Pushkin. For anyone who has ever lost a beloved pet, this interview may well hit close to home.

Ask the Vet is back with a couple of questions that you may find interesting! Remember to send us your questions at petshow@news8.net.

Finally, the Washington Humane Society's Scott Giacoppo joins us to talk about their spectacular event being held at the Reagan Building next week, The Sugar and Champagne Affair.

Chef Harper McClure from The Federalist DC as well as Doron Petersan from Sticky Fingers Bakery bring on a preview of some of the fabulous fare that will be featured at the event on Jan. 31. Hope you'll come out and joins us next Thursday - Dr. Katy and Papi will be there with bells on!

This week on The Pet Show we're jumping into the New Year full force! We've got a really fun show and we hope that you all enjoy it.

Lisa Illman from Kritter Kommunity, LLC joins us to talk about her product called the "Kritter Kondo." This innovative "play pen" for pets can keep them safe while they're indoors or outdoors, and can even be used to help introduce new pets into the household. Tune in to the show on Saturday to see how you can win one of these awesome products!

Tamara Henry of Vanilla Fire Productions joins us via Skype to talk about the new film premiering at Sundance Film Festival next week called "Until They Are Home." The film features some of the first footage ever seen of "The War Kitten," the iconic photo of a Marine in battle during World War II sharing his water with a kitten trapped on the battlefield under a tank. The film made the Oscar short list this year!

"Ask Dr. Katy" is back, and this time we're addressing the controversial issue of green tripe. Tune in to hear Dr. Katy's opinion.

Also, we preview a few events coming up that we hope that you'll join us for. Washington Humane Society's 12th Annual Sugar and Champagne Affair is occurring Jan. 31 at The Ronald Reagan Building in Washington, and "Punish the Deed, Not the Breed" takes place on Feb. 10 at the Baltimore Law School and focuses on breed-specific legislation, and what can be done to protect our nation from vicious dogs without profiling one particular breed.

Finally, the Prince George's County Humane Society brings on the "Adorable Adoptable" Katie who's looking for a home. A 6-month-old Airedale/American Bulldog mix, this big sweet baby would make an amazing addition to an active family!

Tune in at 11 a.m. on Saturday morning to NewsChannel 8! And, check out The Pet Show's Facebook page on Saturday morning to win a Kritter Kondo of your very own! Finally, follow Dr. Katy on Twitter @drkatynelson for regular Shedline News updates!

How did Chip McFly do?

Happy New Year, Pet Show Peeps!!! 2012 was the start of a great ride here at NewsChannel 8 for all of us here on the show, and we've had such an incredible time making an informative show with a fun twist to it for all of you!

Thank you so much for all of your support, and we look forward to hearing from you what we can do better and what you want to learn about in the future! Email us your questions, suggestions, or just say "Hi" to us at petshow@news8.net!

On this week's show, we're following up with "Chip" McFly (and of course Dad Tommy McFly) as we finish out Chip's time on the Fresh Fit Challenge!

Chip is looking FANTASTIC; you don't want to miss the transformation! Courtney Groome from FreshPet joins us to talk about Chip's nutritional plan going forward, and Christian Cunnane from Fetch! PetCare gives Chip his 'assignments' going forward! Check out his full report right here:

Next up, we've got the newest anchor on Good Morning Washington - Scott Thuman - and his gorgeous pup "Olive!" Scott's waking us all up with a smile every morning here on ABC7, and Olive is his partner in crime.

A longtime pet advocate and "Humane Hero Award" recipient from the Washington Humane Society, Scott approaches life as a pet owner with a sense of humor and humility that you'll definitely enjoy!

You'll get to see Dr. Katy's premiere as an animal health "reporter" on ABC7 as well and learn about a product that you've likely got in your pantry that has been healing animals and people for thousands of years!

Finally, Stacey Holliday, Veterinary Assistant at the Washington Animal Rescue League Medical Center, tells us about how WARL can help care for pets owned by D.C. residents facing financial challenges. Plus, you won't want to miss her stories of dramatic pet rescues that WARL has been involved in over the past year. They do some great things over there at WARL!

Looking forward to a great show! Tell us what you think!
