One more 70-and-above-degree day on tap as we round out the week and head into the weekend, which will feature not just cooler temperatures but high winds. A dry front will push through the region later today producing extra clouds and a wind shift to the west and then northwest overnight.
Even though temperatures will remain a few degrees above average over the weekend it will definitely feel much colder. The winds will begin to increase overnight but will reach full strength during the day Saturday with gusts of 45 to 50 m.p.h. or greater possible. Such strong winds will be capable of downing trees or limbs which may in turn snap power lines. Those driving a high profile vehicle will also need to use extra caution.
By Sunday the winds will have diminished greatly with morning sunshine giving way to increasing clouds during the afternoon and evening. The next storm system will move into the region early next week and could produce an isolated shower on President’s Day.
