Hot holiday weekend for D.C., scorching heat by Tuesday

High pressure will build across the mid-Atlantic over the next several days, pushing afternoon temperatures into the 90s.

Overnight: Mostly Cloudy and Humid

Lows: 65°-73° | Wind: S 5-10

Sunday: Mostly Sunny and Hot

Highs: 85°-90° | Wind: S 5-10

Monday: Hot and Humid

Highs: 88°-93° | Wind: S 5-10

With an area of high pressure building across the mid-Atlantic, the hottest temperatures of the year are expected by the end of the holiday weekend.

Highs on Sunday will be in the upper 80s to near 90s degrees with a chance for afternoon thunderstorms. The best chance, although limited, will be in the mountains . Overnight low will dip into the 60s to lower 70s. Memorial Day will feature abundant sunshine with highs in the lower 90s. Tuesday will be the hottest of the week with highs in the middle 90s and heat index readings in the upper 90s to near 100 degrees.
