Some evening showers and thunderstorms visited the metro area gave just some brief relief from the heat. The extraordinary heat wave that stretches from the Great Plains to the East will be centered over the East Coast this weekend. Right now, it looks like the hottest day for us will be Friday and Saturday with heat indices 110 or higher. There is just a slight (20 percent) chance of some afternoon thunderstorms in the metro area for the next few days. The chance for any significant break in the heat doesn't come until Monday with the hint of a cold front getting close and right now next Tuesday may be the first day not to reach 90.
