A cold front will move into the region today helping to initiate showers and thunderstorms across the area. Highs should reach the low to mid 90s under partly sunny skies. Tonight, there may be a few lingering storms with lows in the 70s. Wednesday will feature the chance for a stray storm, but otherwise expect hot and humid conditions with highs in the mid 90s.
Thursday through Saturday, very dangerous heat can be expected with highs near the 100 degree mark and heat index values up to 110. Just for a little reinforcement on how dangerous this heat is expected to be, here is a statement from the National Weather Service this morning:
THE IMPACTS OF HEAT STRESS ARE CUMULATIVE... AND INCREASE EACH DAY THE HEAT LASTS. ANYONE WITH PLANS THURSDAY THROUGH SATURDAY OF SPENDING TIME OUTSIDE... OR INVOLVED IN STRENUOUS OUTDOOR ACTIVITY... WILL BE SUSCEPTIBLE TO SERIOUS AND POTENTIALLY LIFE THREATENING HEAT ILLNESSES.
An Excessive Heat Watch is already in effect from Thursday afternoon through Thursday evening.
Please try to limit your time outdoors over the next couple of days and stay well hydrated. The heat should break on Sunday with highs falling back near the 90 degree mark.
