Strong to severe storms are possible in the D.C. area later today

A strong area of low pressure and cold front will bring the chance for strong storms later today and into tonight.

This Afternoon: Cloudy and Breezy, Showers Likely

Highs: 60s | Wind: ESE 10-20 m.p.h.

Tonight: Strong Storms Possible Early

Lows: 50s | Wind: SW 10 m.p.h.

Thursday: Partly Cloudy, Breezy and Cool

Highs: Low 60s | Wind: SW 10-20 m.p.h.

A potent area of low pressure and associated frontal system will move through the region today and into tonight. Cloudy skies, gusty winds and cooler temperatures will be likely this afternoon with highs in the upper 60s. A few showers will be possible. The main energy will push through the D.C. area later this evening and into tonight, bringing the chance for a few strong storms. Some storms may be severe with damaging wind gusts and possibly an isolated tornado.

Storms will come to an end after midnight as the front pushes east of town. Lows will fall into the 50s under mostly cloudy skies. Thursday will feature clearing skies, breezy winds and cooler temperatures in the lower 60s. Improvements will come in on Friday as high pressure nudges back overhead. Expect partly cloudy skies and highs around the 50 degree mark. The weekend ahead will feature mainly sunny skies along with highs near 60 degrees.
