Soggy D.C. forecast, milder air for end of 2011

Keep the umbrella handy today, many areas will see up to 1" of rain by late evening.

This Afternoon: Periods of Rain, Heavy at Times

Highs: 45°- 52° | Precipitation: up to 1" possible

Tonight: Showers Diminish, Cool and Breezy

Lows: 30s | Wind: West 10-15 mph

Wednesday: Partly to Mostly Sunny, Windy

Highs: near 50° | Wind Chill: West 25-30 mph, gusts 40 mph plus

An area of low pressure will arrive later this afternoon bringing clouds, periods of rain and breezy conditions. Highs will be in the middle to upper 40s with lower 50s possible across southern Maryland. A cold front will clear everything out during the evening and overnight hours. As the system moves toward the north and east, skies will clear and winds will increase for the day on Wednesday. Wind gusts may exceed 40 miles per hour.

Highs for the remainder of the week will be in the middle to upper 40s to lower to middle 50s.
