Snow possible Thursday evening and what's this about possible icing Saturday morning? More here.

As of 2pm at Reagan National Airport, the temperature was 42 degrees with a wind gust of 26 m.p.h. If my wind chill chart is correct, that would put the wind chill near 30 degrees. Now in comparison to yesterday in which the region neared the 60 degree mark I'd have to say that's terrible. Who's with me?? The cold front pushed through last night around midnight as I could hear the winds buffetting the windows of my townhouse. Numerous wind gust reports of 45 m.p.h. or more were noted on our WeatherBug network and other local weather stations. Winds will diminish through the remainder of the day, but that will do nothing more than help the temperatures plunge into the 20s tonight. Here's more on today's weather in my latest analysis.

Thoughts on Thursday: There is the chance for snow Thursday evening and Thursday night. I do think a good deal of the area will see snow but the impacts should be minimal and here's why. Snow should begin right after the evening commute which means most people will be home by then. Another good fact is anything that falls should be very light, with only around a half of an inch expected in Hagerstown, MD to flurries or maybe a dusting at most closer to the D.C. area. The main energy pushes just to the north over Southern Pennsylvania, so there could be a little more in the way of snow from State College to Philly.

Icing possible Saturday? We have been paying attention to a storm system that should affect the region on Saturday. Models have been consistently showing some frozen precipitation and we will continue to watch them evolve in the coming runs. As of now, there appears to be the potential for some sleet and freezing rain in the morning on Saturday which should turn to just plain rain by the afternoon. The main question would be the areas to the north and west of D.C. where the cold air could get locked in place longer. That is what we are keeping an eye on and will continue to keep you updated as newer information becomes available to us. Below are the latest freezing rain probabilities as of Wednesday afternoon.
