Happy New Year and welcome to 2012…welcome to winter! A few flurries are possible through this evening. The gusty winds will continue tonight and through the day tomorrow, as well. This air mass is the coldest of the season and in fact tomorrow will feature the coldest high temperatures of the winter and tomorrow night, the coldest of the season. While we will be shivering from the cold and even colder wind chills, just remember this is a pretty average little January cold snap. By the weekend we will be back in the 50s.

No major storms on the horizon right now. As far as the longer term trends for the month of January are concerned, I think January will wind up being colder than December but not frigidly so. In my opinion, January temperatures will be near of just above average…even if we have a couple little cold snaps. While it is not impossible that a major pattern change could put us in the deep freeze later in the month…I just don’t see that happening.
