The fierce geomagnetic storm wasn't quite as potent as space weather forecasters thought at first but it is now ramping up and plenty strong to cause some beautiful auroras to show up across the globe. Check out some of these awesome pictures coming in to Spaceweather.com from places such as Russia, Finland and Iceland. There are even some videos coming in as well.
With a giant sunspot about 7 times bigger than the earth, Coronal Mass Ejectons (CME's) are shooting out solar flares from the sun. There continues to be a good chance for more flares to occur out of this sunspot which will make for even more geomagnetic storms over the next few days. Be sure to check the forecast often and stay tuned for more beautiful auroras! Here's a video below of the CME earlier this week.
