We were running a precipitation deficit through the month of February. In fact, yesterday morning Washington was 1 3/4 inches below average and by midnight, we had made up most of that with 1 1/2 inches of rainfall in the rain guage. Today is March 1st and the first day of Meteorological Spring and the forecast is perfectly suited. Sunny, breezy and mild conditions will make it feel more like April. But another cold front will change that.
After some sunshine tomorrow morning, clouds will increase and showers will be a possibility by evening. We will squeeze one more warm day from this pattern on Saturday but the next cold front will bring an 80% chance of showers and thunderstorms Saturday afternoon. Much cooler air will arrive on Sunday with partly sunny skies.
A quick climate note...the average high temperature today in Washington is 51 degrees. By the end of the month, the average high temperature will climb to 61 degrees.
