After an exceptionally cool and dreary Saturday, the weekend is redeeming itself with milder temperatures and sunny skies. Yesterday's 56 degree "high" at Reagan National was a full 15 degrees below the seasonal average and one of the chilliest days of April; the range has been from 50 all the way up to 89. The gray skies and scattered showers that grew more numerous overnight contributed to the gloom. But with high pressure building in today and winds shifting to the north, sunny skies and temperatures near 70 will brighten moods considerably.
The sparkling skies won't last long, however, as the high moves offshore on Monday and a period of unsettled weather arrives for much of the coming week. With a warm front dominating the weather picture for the period, the good news is that as May begins, temperatures will rise dramatically; look for highs from midweek to be in the mid 70s to low 80s. Dew points will also be going up as will the chance for showers and thunderstorms on Tuesday and Wednesday.
With that rising warmth and humidity - and sunsets about to hit 8 PM - the proximity of summer cannot be denied! Enjoy your Sunday.
